TII Selected As Alabama’s Midsize Manufacturer of the Year 2002

     Madison, AL — Triana Industries Incorporated (TII), a minority-owned electrical and mechanical manufacturing and assembly operation in northern Alabama was recently selected as the 2002 Alabama Manufacturer of the Year for the medium size companies (100 to 299 employees). Founded in 1985, the Business Council of Alabama, the foremost association of business & industry and the state’s #1 business advocate, selected TII for this prestigious honor from among hundreds of eligible manufacturers throughout the state.

     Bernard J. Schroer, Associate Vice President for Research for the University of Alabama at Huntsville, in nominating TII, noted their “reputation for superior quality, competitive cost, dependable delivery, and reliable service,” as justification for his nomination. Schroer also highlighted how TII’s statistics compared with the database from Industry Week’s “America’s Best” manufacturers. Some of the benchmarks included TII’s ISO 9002 and QS-9000 certifications, while only 71% and 34% of “America’s Best” manufacturers had obtained those quality standards respectively. TII boasts an amazing finished product first-pass yield percentage of 99.92%, while “America’s Best” median was 98%. Schroer revealed how TII had either met or overwhelmingly surpassed the “America’s Best” medians in over 90 categories. Some of the areas included: the percentage of reduction in in-plant defect rates within the last five years, percentage of reduction in customer rejection rate within the last five years, as well as on-time delivery rates.

     Ralph Malone, TII President and CEO, stated that Team TII was excited to hear the news of their selection, and after 30 years in manufacturing, remains committed to improving standards in quality, cost, delivery, and service. TII is fast becoming a leader in electrical and mechanical manufacturing and assembly and currently employs a staff of nearly 200 – providing a major economic boost in the Triana, Madison and North Alabama area. Some of TII's major customers include Daimler-Chrysler, Yazaki, Lear, Carrier, and North American Bus Industries.

     TII was honored at the Business Council of Alabama’s Annual Safety and Manufacturer of the Year Awards Luncheon held in Birmingham in April.
